Vraka was worn in Cyprus, but also in Greek islands like Crete. Its origin is not well known and we do not know where and when it was used for the first time in Cyprus.
Vraka was not the same in all parts of Cyprus. In Mesaoria the brace was very long and was accompanied by scarves or low shoes, while in the mountains it was shorter and was accompanied by boots.
Vraka was made of thick teak woven cotton of voufa. A number of pieces of cloth were sewn together to make it big and tufted.
